Training

We will shortly be finalising dates for training in the future. This will be for both basic and accredited training. If there is sufficient interest we may be able to offer training before the end of this academic year for volunteers who have not had an opportunity to train this year so as to be ready for the start of the next academic year starting September 2008. We will keep registered mentors up to date by email.

Thinking about becoming a mentor?

If you're thinking about becoming a mentor with ReachOut! and you're not sure how or whether to proceed it's easy!

First, look to the left side bar and click on the "Register as a mentor" icon.

Next, choose which city you want to mentor in, Manchester or London.

Then fill in the simple on-line form (it's only one page) submit it securely online and we'll send you details about training etc.

Once you've registered you can use the "Log in" icon (also on the left sidebar just above the "Register" icon) to reach your own information area.)

Before you can choose a project you need to have done the training and completed the CRB (Child Protection police checks) procedure.

Once you've completed all the formalities you will be able to sign up online for a project of your choice (if places are still available).

PLEASE NOTE. Since many of our projects will finish at Easter 2008 you should check with us before you continue as we may not be able to find a place for you until next academic year (September 2008). If you would like to "pre-register" for September please let us know. We welcome these pre-registrations as it will enable us to carry out some or all of the CRB checks and training so you are ready to start in October and don't have to wait.

Filling in the form puts you under NO OBLIGATION so if you decide after you've found out more about what's involved that you don't want to continue, that's OK. Just let us know and we won't trouble you further. Honest!

We're looking forward to hearing from you.

P.S.Check out this page regularly to see our latest news and announcements and to see our "Roll of Honour" in which we share with you some of the successes of those involved in our projects and thank you for the feedback we have received which has helped us to improve what we do...just use the feedback button on the left and you could be on our site!

CRB Update

Manchester London

Manchester volunteers

We've now arranged with the UMU Student Activities Officer, Emily Randall, to use part of their office to hand out CRB forms (if you haven't got one already!) receive completed forms or answer any queries about completing the forms, and check your ID documents. Thanks, Emily.

You can come along to the Student Activities Centre which is on the Second Floor, UM Students Union Building on Oxford Road to deal with your CRB forms, ID and enquiries but you must make arrangements with Sarah before you do!

Contact Sarah at 0161 226 7633 during office hours or email her.

She will be probably be wearing a grey ReachOut! hoodie so you should recognise her!

Another easy way for you to get an application form is at one of our training sessions. We will have plenty of application forms available then and you can either complete them on the day (and please bring your ID documents with you) or use one of the alternative arrangements we will put in place.

If for any reason you can't get a copy of an application form at the UMSU or at one of the training session we will be happy to send out CRB Disclosure application forms by post to you if you have registered as a mentor (see the Register button on the left). Just email John O'Donnell and request a form. We'll send it to your registered term-time address unless you tell us otherwise. Please don't do this unless absolutely necessary as it adds to our administration costs.

If you can't drop off your completed Application forms any other way we can see you individually by arrangement. Again, just email John O'Donnell.

If you need further information you can check this out in full on the CRB link or, if you can't find what you need, contact us.

London volunteers

You will need an application form. We will provide these. If you register as a mentor and attend any of our training courses we will hand the forms out then. This is the most likely way you will get the forms.
