"The features and pictures on this website illustrate the generosity of people who in many different ways, big and small, have given up something for someone.

Most of us at some stage want to make a difference. Hundreds of people have achieved this through ReachOut! and had a huge impact on the lives of many children and young people living in areas which government statistics using multiple indices identify as areas of high deprivation. We are very grateful to them all; on our own behalf and on behalf of the children and young people they have helped we say a big “Thank You!”

ReachOut! has grown over the past 12 months and we want to continue that growth. We are confident we can achieve this despite the massive cuts in government funding, which has been at least partially offset through the efforts of our funders and other supporters, who in our hour of increased need have dug deeper into their pockets and juggled their timetables and found more time and inspiration to raise funds for us.

The need for our services continues to grow. The funding cuts have not just affected ReachOut! of course. They have affected many ordinary families who struggle to provide even the basic necessities for their children. Our bespoke, individually-tailored mentoring, subject tuition and horizon-broadening trips and activities are more needed than ever before. In the past few weeks we’ve taken children to listen to Mozart at the Bridgwater Hall, climb mountains in the Lake District, run talent shows and restaurant nights in their schools, and learn about team building and leadership by engaging in army-based training drills for an afternoon. We have taken 40 young people to Barcelona (talk about leaving one’s comfort zone!). We are continuing with mentoring programmes in 15 schools in London and Manchester. Busy times ahead! So far we have been able, just about, to cope with the financial difficulties. With the continued support from the wonderful team at ReachOut of committed staff and dedicated volunteers, we will continue to do so for years to come. Ad multos annos!"
