What is a criminal records bureau check?

The CRB check matches your details against records and other sources, including the Police National Computer. The check may reveal convictions, cautions, reprimands and warnings. Both you and ReachOut! will see the results of the check and if there are any relevant entries a decision will be made as to whether we can employ you. With your permission, we may ask the headteacher of a school in which you wish to volunteer, whether they are willing to let you work there with their children. We ask the question anonymously (your name is not disclosed.)

Do I need a CRB Check?

It is important to us that all our employees and volunteers are suitable to work with children and young people, so we require everyone to undergo Enhanced Disclosure Checks as part of our recruitment procedures.

Data Protection - in line with legislation, ReachOut! does not retain your Disclosure for longer than 12 months and will not share your CRB Disclosure without your request or consent.

What if I already have an Enhanced CRB Disclosure Certificate?

If you already have or are in the process of obtaining an Enhanced Disclosure from the CRB we may be able to accept this to avoid the necessity of your having to undergo the process again with us. If you wish to explore this possibility please contact us with the Disclosure number, date of issue, the name of the organisation employing you, the Countersignatory details and confirmation that it is an Enhanced Disclosure and relates to working with children and we will do our best to assist you.

How much will it cost me?

Probably nothing! If you sign up to volunteer with us we will process your CRB free of charge, as will the CRB provided you satisfy their definition of “volunteer”!
