| Yuya Fukutomi, Mentor, 2003 |
I joined ReachOut! because I wanted my three years in Manchester to extend beyond my time on campus, and wanted to connect with the local community in Manchester. Talking to the staff, I had a sense that ReachOut! would give me more - a real challenge and a chance to change children’s lives.
When the mentees I had spent three years with aspired for something higher than before or achieved something, I felt a strong sense of accomplishment and that feeling together with the fun experience along the way alone was worthwhile.
ReachOut! helped me to become a more patient and relaxed person and children’s education is a topic that I continue to follow closely to day. Now I work in Japan and, though I’m far from ReachOut! in terms of distance, it’s a charity still close to my heart.
