    ReachOut! Academy

We run seven mentoring projects at The Petchey Academy. We run an additional three football only projects for primary school children which engages young people in ReachOut! before they are old enough to participate in the mentoring project.

Project summary: Young people take part in fun activities (football or arts and crafts) before or after taking part in an hour of academic mentoring. We need volunteers to be enthusiastic and exceptional role models to these young people by becoming Academic Mentors. Academic Mentors work one-to-one with one young person over a sustained period of time. Academic Mentors focus on helping young people complete homework or targeted maths or English work, while building a relationship in which the mentor and mentee can share experiences and the mentor can support his or her mentee’s social and emotional needs.

ReachOut! – The Mentoring Charity and The Petchey Academy’s relationship:
The ReachOut! Academy first ran at The Petchey Academy in the schools opening year in 2007. After a successful year ReachOut! then ran its Summer Programme at The Petchey Academy.

ReachOut! – The Mentoring Charity and The Petchey Academy are completely separate organisations, but work together closely as both have a desire to help particular young people who attend both the ReachOut! Academy and the school, and also to support the development of the community.
