Boys Year 11 Project Summary: (This is a boys-only project*) The aim of this project is to raise the aspirations and ambitions of boys starting in Year 11. Some of these boys will have worked with ReachOut! during the last academic year.
Each session follows a similar structure:
- Group activity: Activities will focus on the ReachOut! Curriculum; icebreakers, team-work activities, quizzes, discussions (e.g. moral dilemmas, politics, current aff¬airs) etc.
- One to one mentoring: mentoring will focus on supporting the boys with their specific goals. With the Year 11 boys, there is a particular focus on post 16 (most mentees are unaware of what options are available to them) and obtaining their GCSEs.
- Football/sports. N.B. Don’t let this put you off: there are always mentees not interested in sports and it is important we are able to offer an alternative.
- There are also a number of trips during the year to places of interest, e.g. go-karting, laser quest, the theatre, the Universities in Manchester etc. Mentees are expected to participate in fund-raising to facilitate these trips, and activities range from bag packing and charity runs to organising mini-football tournaments.
- The other aspect of the project is developing the leadership skills of the boys.
