Our Lady’s Sports College is a Catholic Secondary school in the North East of Manchester in Higher Blackley. With an excellent reputation for sport and the benefit of a brand new building and facilities, Our Lady’s is fast becoming a great place to learn and face the gauntlet of adolescence, but only with your help!

The Boys project is back with a vengeance and attitude! The challenge is to help these young males regain interest in education and set their heart on a great future for themselves. After this heavy stuff it will be down to the Football pitch to play for all you’ve got and let off some steam! This project has run for many years and is testament to ReachOut’s legacy and the great impact male role models can have.

This year will see the start of a Girls Project at Our Lady’s! Lots of lovely ladies and their University mentors will be discussing important topics such as moral dilemmas, careers, body image and the importance of education whilst getting their grips with lifeskills, team games and planning ahead. It will be fun for all with exciting plans and trips, so come along if you’re enthusiastic and bold enough!

During their personal mentoring time, both the boys and girls have a chance to talk, not only about academic problems, but also about personal worries or concerns in an environment where they can be sure of a sympathetic ear and complete confidentiality. The project co-ordinator is on hand to offer any advice or solutions to any problems and to access the relevant resources that may be required.

After the Summer Project the wonderful Homework Club with year 7s and above will be restarting! Last year saw a wild trip to Laser Quest and this year we will see year 7 children being helped out by Year 11 students with University mentors setting the standard. After some group games and homework it’s time for us all to bond as team with football, dodgeball and much more!

These projects are challenging but the best thing since Band Aid, come and give it a try!

Start date: As soon as possible after October half term (school).

Age of Mentees: 11 – 16

Duration: 2hrs + 30 minutes transport each way.

Transport: All mentors are provided with free transport leaving from the Whitworth Art Gallery. map

Criteria for joining this project:

20 places are initially available as indicated above.

You will have to register as a mentor (to register click on the "Register" button on the sidebar to the left of this page).

You will need to satisfy the following training criteria:

You will need to satisfy Criminal Record Bureau (CRB) Disclosure criteria. When you log in (use the Log In button on the sidebar to the left) after registering as a mentor you can follow the progress of your CRB application in your "home area." You can follow the navigational links to check how many places are still available for this project and if there are places still available, sign up for this or other projects.

You will need to have read our Mission statement which sets out our overall objectives and sets out the values which are fundamental to the project and the relevant ReachOut! policies and procedures. You will declare that you have read all these documents.

You will have to have (digitally) signed up to our Mentoring Agreement.
