Monday and Wednesday afternoons 1-30 p.m. to 3-15 p.m.

This larger than average school, is located in the middle of one of Europe's biggest housing association-owned estates in South Manchester. The number of pupils from minority ethnic families, predominantly Indian, has increased significantly in the past three years, accounting for a third of all pupils. Most of these pupils speak English as an additional language. The proportion of pupils entitled to free school meals is well above average and the number with learning difficulties and/or disabilities is broadly average. The school has recently gained a number of nationally recognised awards, such as Inclusion Gold and Investors in People.

The children that the school refer for mentoring are usually aged 9-11 and despite the challenges they face are thrilled to have a mentor. The school has had great success in the musical field winning many local and national awards for the choir.

You will be working closely with teachers who have identified the children who would most benefit from support from a mentor. They will provide you with work each week so you can work through this with your mentee but you should have time to deal with other issues such as poor self-esteem or self-confidence, behaviour or concentration issues.

Start date: As soon as possible after October half term (school). Induction meeting Tuesday 20th October at the school 10 am (this is a change of date!) Pick up 9-30 am Whitworth Art Gallery. Email Andrea McDermott or contact her to reserve your place.

Age of Mentees: 9-11

Duration: 2 hours plus 30 minutes transport each way.

Transport: All mentors are provided with free transport leaving from the Whitworth Art Gallery. map
