Manchester- Whitworth Art Gallery Project

map

Takes place at various times by arrangement.

Start date: As soon as possible after October half term (school).

Age of Mentees: 7-16

Duration: 90 mins

This is a brand new project! We are linking up with the Whitworth Art Gallery who are running a project with artists and groups of vulnerable young people from the Leo Kelly Centre. We need a group of determined and mature University students to mentor some of these young people and help them out 1-1 during the project. Many opportunities lie in shadowing artists who are conducting therapeutic and investigative work using art to explore themes surrounding identity. Any artists interested in community or hospital work in the future should get in touch if they are interested in any aspect of the mentoring or shadowing. Students are needed who are in their 2nd or final year (also inc Postgraduates) from visual, media, art, music and creative writing/English background are welcomed as all forms of art are being explored. Opportunities also exist for students from sociology and psychology backgrounds who are interested in research methods and helping out with analysing the effect of the project (in association with the University of Central Lancashire who are conducting the research). The day and time of these opportunities is flexible
