#iwill is a national campaign that aims to make social action part of life for as many 10 to 20 year-olds as possible by the year 2020. It’s about empowering more young people to play their part… By doing so they can help those around them at the same time as developing skills for life.
As part of the #iwill campaign ReachOut pledges to:
- Provide all our young people with one-to-one mentoring support so they can realise their full potential and become active citizens.
- Provide volunteering opportunities to our young people aged 14+ so they can develop their role as Junior Mentors, providing academic and personal support to the younger children in their local communities.
- Support our young people to create and deliver their own social action projects, enabling them to gain practical skills and experience whilst giving back to their communities and inspiring others to do the same.
To help us achieve our pledge we are re-profiling our Junior Mentors Programme to highlight the focus on social action from September – it will be called the ReachOut ACE Programme, for Action, Character and Excellence. In addition we are launching a brand new programme for 16 to 18 year olds, the ReachOut Community Leaders Programme, where young people will be supported by their mentors in creating and delivering a project to benefit their community, at the same time developing skills in teamwork, leadership, organisation and communication.
The #iwill campaign is being coordinated by the charity Step Up To Serve. Through collaboration and partnership it is spreading the word about the benefits of youth social action, working to embed it in the journey of young people and creating fresh opportunities for the participation.
