Tell me more about the project placement. Expand Participants are placed on a ReachOut mentoring project based on availability and location preference. We aim to place everyone on a mentoring project, however this does depend on progress with our partner schools. The projects take place weekly during term time in the afternoon or evening. You will use your experience and creativity to plan and deliver both academic and fun character-focused activities. A typical session would be a mix of icebreakers, group games and activities focusing on ReachOut’s character strengths – Fairness, Good Judgement, Self-control and Staying Power - and one-to-one mentoring where each young person is paired with a volunteer and works on Maths and English. During this time you will support mentors to build relationships, carry out the activities and ensure the smooth running of the session. The project will end with a group activity such as sports activity, drama, or arts and crafts where the young people can develop their character strengths and further build relationships with the mentors and each other.
