About us Work for us Project Officer - Manchester ReachOut Project Officer - Manchester Job Title: Project Officer Manchester Contract: Fixed term, 12 months (probationary period of 6 months) Working Hours: 11.30 – 20.00 Mon to Thurs 09.00 – 17.30 Fridays Location: Based in Manchester Office, project delivery in various locations across Greater Manchester Salary: £20,400 to £23,460 (depending on experience) Holidays: 27 days per year Start date: 28th August 2018 or ASAP Background ReachOut supports young people from disadvantaged areas to develop character and improve Maths and English skills. ReachOut runs mentoring projects for young people in various schools in the afternoon and evening. Each project involves one-to-one academic activities with volunteers and extracurricular activities such as multi-sports, drama and arts and crafts. Our Project Officers directly deliver projects as well as support Project Leaders (sessional staff) to deliver projects across Manchester. Job Description Work with the Project Managers to plan and run your allocated mentoring projects and to support the development of Project Leaders (sessional staff) Manage the progress and development of the young people Line manage and support Project Leaders Monitor the budget for allocated projects Communicate with schools on a day to day basis to ensure expectations are met and the projects run smoothly Safeguard ReachOut’s young people, exercise and promote best practice when working with young people in a safeguarding context Carry out project related administration Assist in developing the ReachOut curriculum Support with recruitment, screening, induction and development of volunteer mentors through referencing, DBS checking, training and ongoing support. Project Officers also share the co-ordination of additional activities, for example: Project Delivery Leadership Programme Curriculum development Sourcing and management of sports coaches Workplace Experience Visits Events management Project resource management Follow ReachOut’s policies and procedures Carry out any other duties as required by ReachOut and to act in a manner that is in keeping with ReachOut’s values. Person Specification Belief in the ReachOut mission and passionate about our character building agenda Experience in planning and delivering activities with groups of young people in the range of 9-16 years old Experience of supporting young people with a range of needs e.g. behaviour, confidence, attainment Experience of working with volunteers A degree or relevant experience Proficient IT skills, including use of Microsoft Office programmes Effective teamwork skills Good communicator: orally and in writing Proactive and can use initiative and find solutions to problems Has the ability to adapt and learn Positive, enthusiastic and adopts a “can do” mentality Can work flexible hours when necessary Willing to travel to various locations in Manchester to attend projects and events Willing to travel to our London Office on occasion and stay overnight if required To apply for this role please send your CV and a cover letter outlining why you are applying for the role and how you meet the person specification to Kevin McCarthy at [email protected].
